-Men, including Aylmer, attempt to change women for their own benefit.  They show no interest in the sake of women themselves.  Aylmer wishes to remove the birthmark “for the sake of giving himself peace” -Aylmer goes as far as being joyful at this opportunity to control and change his wife. We see this through dialogue: “it will be such a rapture to remove [the birthmark]”
